If we are to have a strong future workforce, we must encourage people to seek careers in the restaurant, foodservice, hospitality and culinary arts industries.
We seek opportunities to develop young minds and to empower the next generation of leaders. We offer scholarships and support for educational institutions in the U.S. and encourage and reward students to pursue careers in these areas. We also match associate contributions to higher education.
Many of our operating companies partner with local organizations to support local culinary students, including:
- Our Sysco Metro New York and Arizona operating companies both support Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP). The Metro New York team recently provided a day of demos, tours, safety and sanitation sessions and food for the eager students. The Arizona team volunteers, teaches, organizes space for training sessions and donates product. C-CAP, a national non-profit, works with public schools to prepare underserved high school students for college and career opportunities in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Through C-CAP’s efforts, a large percentage of its students find rewarding careers in the foodservice and hospitality industry with many alumni, now graduates of top culinary schools, working in leading restaurants and hotels throughout the country.
- Sysco Baltimore supports the Maryland Food Bank and its FoodWorks Program through a combined donation of time, money and products. FoodWorks offers a 12 week program of intense culinary training to low-income students attending the Community College of Baltimore County.
Sysco proudly awards college scholarships to 16 outstanding students each year as part of the John F. and Eula Mae Baugh Scholarship Program, established in 1996 to honor Sysco founder John Baugh and his wife, Eula Mae.
